Playing Level: Good

74 years after the end of World War II, Gerard Lanier, son of a “Righteous Among the Nations,” initiated a most uncommon journey. During the dark period of the Nazi occupation in France, his father Roger Lanier was serving in the terrible Vichy police. Taking advantage of his special status, Gerard Lanier’s father was hiding and saving Jews, risking his own life with courage and dignity. This honorable policeman was also a talented violinist. For years, he sat with the Jewish family hiding in his house, playing violin for them and offering their miserable life some little pieces of hope and light.
